Toongabbie was originally called “Long Swamp” by indigenous Australians and was used as a boundary marker for two tribes: Cadigal and Wangal. The first settler to live in this area was David Jones who arrived from England on July 22nd 1804 and received land grants totaling 1,200 acres (5 km²). He built his homestead near what is now known as Jones Road and Old Windsor Road (off the Great Western Highway and M7) and later donated land for a church, school and cemetery. The first school opened in Toongabbie was on April 22nd 1836. Some important landmarks around Toongabbie include Valencia Park, Western Sydney Alliance Church and Toongabbie Train Station.
