Merrylands is a suburb in Sydney, New South Wales. It’s located about 22 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district and is part of the Greater Western Sydney region. According to the 2016 census, Merrylands had a population of 29,653 people. The name comes from Arthur Todd Holroyd (1806-1887) who acquired land in this area in 1855 and gave his name to an adjoining suburb – Holroyd
Merrylands was originally home to small dairy farms but now mostly consists of residential property with some commercial activity along Merrylands Road and near Canterbury Road at its two main intersections with Auburn Street and Liverpool Road respectively.
