Switching to induction cooking is one of the most popular kitchen upgrades across Sydney right now, and for good reason. Induction cooktops are faster, safer, and more energy efficient than gas or traditional electric options. But getting one properly installed requires a licensed electrician, a dedicated circuit, and in some cases, a switchboard upgrade. That’s exactly what we do.
Moonlight Electrical handles induction cooktop installation across Sydney, from Merrylands and Parramatta through to the Inner West and beyond. Whether you’re replacing an old gas cooktop or fitting out a brand-new kitchen, we manage the full electrical scope, from switchboard assessment to final compliance certificate.
Moonlight Electrical holds NSW Contractor Licence 373818C and Level 2 ASP accreditation, which means we’re qualified to work on everything from your kitchen circuit right through to your switchboard and mains connection. We’re a family-owned business based in Merrylands, and every job is backed by our Lifetime Labour Guarantee and 7-year electrical warranty.

What’s Involved in an Induction Cooktop Installation
An induction cooktop can’t simply be plugged into an existing powerpoint. Unlike a kettle or toaster, these appliances draw significant power, typically 7,000 to 8,000 watts, and must be hardwired to a dedicated circuit by a licensed electrician. If your home was built before the mid-2000s, there’s a good chance your existing kitchen wiring won’t be sufficient. Here’s what your installation typically involves:

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an electrician to install an induction cooktop?
Yes. In NSW, all fixed electrical appliance installations must be completed by a licensed electrician. Induction cooktops require hardwiring to a dedicated circuit, which is classified as prescribed electrical work. A Certificate of Compliance is issued on completion.
How much does induction cooktop installation cost in Sydney?
Most installations range from $250 to $600 for the electrical work, depending on whether you need a new dedicated circuit, switchboard upgrade, or gas decommissioning. We quote per job, not per hour, so you’ll know the full cost before any work begins.
Can I replace my gas cooktop with an induction cooktop?
Absolutely. Gas-to-induction conversions are one of our most common jobs. The process involves decommissioning the gas line (by a licensed gasfitter), running a new dedicated electrical circuit, and installing the induction cooktop. We coordinate the full process for you.
What electrical requirements does an induction cooktop need?
Most models require a dedicated 32-amp circuit on 240V power, a suitable circuit breaker at the switchboard, and an isolation switch within 2 metres of the cooktop. Some larger models may require up to 40 amps. Your existing kitchen circuit is unlikely to be sufficient, we assess this during your initial inspection.
How long does the installation take?
A straightforward installation where the circuit already exists typically takes 1–2 hours. If a new circuit needs to be run from the switchboard or a switchboard upgrade is required, allow 3–4 hours. We complete most jobs in a single visit.
