Want to know a bit more about Lurnea? The Cabrogal tribe lived in Lurnea previously. It was named Hillview after the suburb’s attractive views of the Liverpool region, and it remained until after World War I when the land was developed into a soldier settlement with enough room for a house and a small farm.
Lurnea was first known as Zumaia (“a place to rest”). The Lurnea Post Office opened on February 15, 1921. A street formerly known as Hillview Parade was also renamed. In the 1970s, the region was rebuilt into a residential area for refugees from the Vietnam War. It also became home to several Vietnamese refugee families. Some places we find ourselves regularly visiting include Amalfi Memorial Park and Phillip Park Tennis Centre.
