Lane Cove is a suburb in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Lane Cove is located nine kilometers north-west of the Sydney central business district and serves as the administrative centre for the Lane Cove Council.
Lane Cove’s name derives from its location at “the end of a long cove” beside what was originally called Long Cove Creek (now known as Longueville Bay). The creek has since been filled with sand to form Longueville Beach where boats are moored today. ‘Cove’ or ‘coves’ are also often used to describe bays or creeks that have been shortened by landfill, such as at Cremorne Point and Cammeray.
